A new Scandinavian-inspired food business has opened in Newport’s Indoor Market, bringing a selection of Nordic-inspired food and drinks to the city centre.

Kos Deg Scandi Eats, located in Unit M.017 at the North End entrance on High Street, has been launched by young entrepreneur Hayley. The name “Kos Deg” comes from Norwegian and can be translated as “have a good time”, “enjoy yourself” or “have a cosy time”.

The business offers a range of speciality canned lattes, including Golden Latte, made with turmeric, ginger and cinnamon, Beetroot and White Chocolate Latte, Spiced Chai Latte, and Matcha and Vanilla Latte. Prices include dairy-free alternatives at no extra charge.

The menu also features Norwegian chocolate knots alongside a selection of bagels. Choices include Vegan Avocado with cream cheese, pickled pink onions and rocket; Danish salami with Jarlsberg cheese, lettuce and red pepper; smoked salmon with cream cheese, rocket and capers; and a vegan blueberry cream cheese bagel topped with Biscoff. All bagels are served with a side of vegetable crisps.

For customers seeking plant-based options, the business currently offers vegan bagels, including avocado and cream cheese, and blueberry cream cheese with Biscoff. Hayley is also developing a vegan and gluten-free waffle option for the menu.

Alongside running the business, Hayley shares the realities of starting and growing a small business through the Instagram account kos.deg.scandi.eats, providing an honest insight into life as a young entrepreneur.
